LONDON 2012 

The 2012 Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXX Olympiad, will be held in London, United Kingdom from 27 July to 12 August 2012, followed by the 2012 Paralympic Games from 29 August to 9 September. London will become the first city to host the modern Olympic Games three times, having previously done so in 1908 and 1948. The Olympic Park is mainly located in Newham, East London. In this borough, it is planned to construct the most of sports facilities such as the Olympic Stadium (which will be designed for 80,000 spectators watching the competition). The Aquatics Centre, as another venue, will hold swimming and diving competition. The Hockey Centre, Velopark (Velodrome and BMX tracks), Tennis Complex and Multi - Sport Arenas (which will host Basketball, Volleyball and Handball) will be also built for the Olympic needs. To accommodate all the athletes, sponsors and journals from all over the world, the objects such as The Olympic Village, Sponsors Village, Media and Broadcast Centre are going to be constructed as well. There are also some of the sports facilities which already exist. ExCeL in Newham (which will host Weightlifting, Boxing, Judo, Wrestling, Tae Kwondo and Table Tennis competitions), O2 in Greenwich (Gymnastics); Greenwich Arena (will host Badminton and Rhythmic Gymnastics), Horse Guards' Parade (Beach Volleyball) and Wimbledon (Tennis) belong to the places which need only some renovation. Some of the sports disciplines will take place outside London. Canoeing will be held in Broxboune, Hertfordshire; Sailing will be held in Weymouth and Football matches will be held in stadiums throughout the UK. Another very important aspect of the Olympics 2012 is a transport. Currently, there are works on the expansion of London Underground's East London Line as well as the modernization of Docklands Light Railway, North London Line, and the new "Javelin" high-speed rail service. The public transport plays a key role in the Olympics 2012. Buses and coaches will provide an easy access from all London airports (Gatwick, Luton, Heathrow, London City Airport and others across the UK) to the main sports venues.
